Coachella 2017

The women of Coachella

I am fortunate enough to partake on a yearly pilgrimage that occurs every April. This “pilgrimage” is a music festival called Coachella Valley Music Festival which runs two weekends in April. Thanks to my adventurous cousins and her friends, I am able to finally join this cult event in California.

2017’s festival was no different that previous years except for our accommodation. The house we stayed in was by far, the most picturesque from previous years. I managed to squeeze it in my schedule since Its at the beginning of my work season – luckily April hasn’t been that busy for me.

One of the original members of our family is Iris – pictured above.

What sets this festival apart from others is the star power that it holds against others. You would often see A,B,C,D-list actors/actresses and performers nonchalantly walking around with you on the festival grounds. It gained popularity from these stars due to proximity and exclusivity (I suppose) of it. When I say exclusivity, I mean exclusive. It’s pretty hard to spot a celebrity if you don’t know what to look for because everyone simply just looks like they came out of a hippie-fashion magazine. In a sea of people dressed up as celebrities, celebrities themselves can hide in a shroud of anonymity through the crowds.

One of the best things about this house is the isolation from everyone/everything else. It felt like your own little oasis in the middle of the dessert. It almost felt like “glamping”. Another thing that sets this house apart is the location if it isn’t obvious enough – we’re in Joshua Tree. You bet your ass I took advantage of this.

It’s a shame that we only truly got one day to explore the place. Commuting from the house to the festival almost took two hours. Combine that with going through the lines and security, you’re looking at maybe 3 hours. Again, its quite the shame and I wish I stayed at least one more day.

The Coachella 2017 Family

From the original five (Me, Alisa, Lourdes, Dale and Iris) on Year 1, to six (minus Dale, add Helen and Janessa) to nine this year (add Jonathan and Joane) our fam is growing – and so is our cost.

Overall, this experience is something that we may or may not top off next time. Either way, I’m sure to make this upcoming one memorable by snapping a couple more photos and memories.
